We have designed the Tune M1 (the “Product”) to remain on your truck at all times given its modular design, lightweight and aerodynamic profile. If you do choose to take the Tune M1 on and off your vehicle, the following care is critical to maintaining the function and warrantability of your Product:
Before removing the Product from your vehicle take note of the factory install location. The Product should sit centered between the bed rails to ensure even clamping pressure and vehicle loading. The other orientation you need to be concerned with is the north to south alignment of the Product, the Product should not be close enough to the cab of the truck that it can make contact with the rear window or any other surface of the truck other than the truck bed itself. If the M1 is installed too close to the cab it can potentially damage the vehicle and/or the M1.
The Product should be placed on the truck such that no part of the base of the camper extends forward of the truck bed in any way. The Product should not extend into the gap between your truck's bed and cab. If for any reason you are unsure of the installation location, reach out to Tune Customer Service (customerservice@tuneoutdoor.com) for assistance.
The proper connection of the Product to the frame of your vehicle is the most important safety procedure to be aware of, as improper installation can lead to the Product becoming disconnected, which could result in injury or loss of life to the user and bystanders.
To ensure bolts on camper mounting brackets never come loose and torque the main camper mounting bolts to 8 ft*lbs. Check to ensure bolts remain torqued properly before driving your truck.
The Product has safety limits of 100 pounds when the Canopy is open, and 300 pounds when the canopy is closed. Different gas struts can be designated as requested to change the ease of opening and closing at various loads up to the 100 lb closed canopy limitation.
If the canopy is open, weights up to the 100 pound limit may cause the gas struts to be stressed beyond their smooth operating range, since they are calibrated to the roof weight. This will normally mean that a user must provide some additional power to both raise and slowly lower the roof with weight exceeding the normal roof weight up to 100 pounds.
We recommend that all weight be taken off the Product roof before raising and lowering the canopy in order to minimize potential impact on the user. Tune Outdoor is not liable for any user injuries caused by a user raising or lowering the canopy of the Product.
Additionally, we require that in a snowstorm when the canopy is up, users sweep or brush snow off of the Product so that it does not accumulate and create a potential stressing event when the roof is lowered. Similarly, snow should be cleared from the Product when the canopy is down and before the canopy is raised. Do not ever try to lower the roof when any additional load has been added to the roof after it was raised. If any additional load is added to the roof (by you or by mother nature) after the roof has been raised it must be removed before lowering.
If the canopy is closed on the Product and any load is being carried in or on the Product the user is required to follow all normal load bearing recommendations for their vehicle, including care to avoid unbalanced or point-loading and care in driving so that forces are not activated that create a dangerous load situation for the vehicle in motion and/or the Product.
To prevent pitching and bunching of fabric when lower, always remember to use the fabric tensioners to keep the fabric taut while lowering the roof.
Never drive with the canopy open. Check the latches to confirm closure when the Product has been lowered and before driving.
Never drive with the aluminum or glass awnings open. Check the latches to confirm closure when the awnings have been lowered and before driving. We also recommend to keep your awnings locked unless being used.
Awning doors can be removed or replaced by removing the gas struts and opening the window all of the way. It will drop out of the hinge and must be supported safely by 2 or more people during this process.
We recommend cleaning your M1 with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly afterwards. If you ordered your Tune M1 with glass awnings use any standard glass cleaner. If using a power washer we recommend not directly spraying joints sealed with rubber gaskets for any sustained amount of time.
